Student drowns in quarry pit while trying to click ‘selfie’

A 19-year-old student slipped and drowned in a quarry pit while he was trying to click a ‘selfie’ at Kothanuru on Thursday.

The deceased has been identified as Akhilnath, a third semester BBA student of a private college.

According to the police, Akhilnath, who is originally from Kerala, was staying in the college hostel. On Thursday morning, he, along with three friends, went to a quarry pit that had filled with water and tried to click a ‘selfie’. They added that he lost balance, fell in the put and drowned. His three friends raised alarm and ran to get help. However, by the time help arrived, Akhilnath had drowned.

The Kothanur police rushed to the spot and alerted the Fire and Emergency Services personnel, who recovered the body after a two-hour search.

The body has been sent for post-mortem and a case has been registered. Further investigations are on.
