Have a streetlight in front of your house or on your way to office that just doesn’t seem to work? No worries, BBMP help is only an SMS away but only until December 30.

The BBMP has announced that citizens can inform them of particular streetlights that sending an SMS to 9480685700, through which this area will come under the BBMP-scheduled inspection on the night of December 30. The landline number 080-22660000 can also be called to report non-functioning streetlights. “There will be 298 teams that will inspect streetlights across the city on the night of December 30. There are 27 senior officials who are in charge of the operation,” said BBMP Commissioner Kumar Naik.

The inspection team will have to send details like the number of functioning streetlights in each ward, illumination standards and penalties charged. A similar inspection around six months ago had revealed that out of 4.59 lakh streetlights in the city, close to 12,000 streetlights across the city were not functioning.

The streetlights have to be maintained by contractors. Inspection of parks, public toilets and other BBMP property will be conducted in the coming days.
