The High Court of Karnataka on Wednesday stayed the installation of any statue inside Mulkatamma Park that belongs to the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) in Azadnagar ward.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka and Justice Mohammad Nawaz passed the interim order on the PIL petition filed by one M.P. Nataraju, a resident of Chamarajpet.

It has been contended in the petition that a private organisation had approached the BBMP to install a statue of Krantiveera Sangolli Rayanna, who was a warrior in Kittur kingdom and had fought against the British, and installation and unveiling of statue was likely to be undertaken on August 15.
