Citizens now have time till October 15, 2019, to enrol themselves, change the address, delete the names of deceased family members from the voters’ list as the Special Summary Revision 2020 exercise has been taken up in the city.
Addressing reporters here on Monday, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP) Commissioner B.H. Anil Kumar, who is also the District Election Officer (DEO), said that election officials will also take up electors’ verification during this period. They will undertake door-to-door verification to ensure all residents in their jurisdiction are in the voters’ list. Mr. Kumar also said that focus will be given to enrolling first-time voters. “Citizens born between February 2, 2002, and January 1, 2003, may enrol themselves in the voters’ list. As per our initial estimates, the number of voters may increase by around 3%,” he said.
During the exercise, the election officials have been instructed to even look into the condition of the 8,514 polling stations across the city, besides ensuring that no polling station is beyond the 2-km radium of citizens’ place of residence.
The election officials have already consulted various political parties to help create awareness among citizens, help officials with enrolment and provide information about those who have been left out, moved to another part of the city or out of the city or have died, he added.
For any changes in the voters’ list or enrolment, citizens may submit passport, driving licence, Aadhaar card, ration card, bank passbook, employees’ identity card issued by government or semi government enterprises, farmer identity card or any other document approved by the Election Commission, along with the prescribed forms. Citizens may approach any of the Citizen Service Centres, Karnataka One/ Bengaluru One, Atal Seva Kendra, Bapuji Seva Kendra (Gram Panchayat offices), office of the Booth Level Officers and enrolment offices. Citizens may also visit NVSP portal for the same or call 1950 (voters’ helpline) for any assistance.
