Expressing dissatisfaction with the State government for demolishing properties that have come up on lake-beds in the layouts developed by the Bangalore Development Authority, Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa on Sunday wondered, “Is it right for the government to hang people for its own blunders?”

Speaking to reporters here, Mr. Kagodu Thimmappa, who has on several occasions publicly expressed his anger against the government’s functioning style, observed that there was a feeling among people that there cannot be another worse instance of maladministration than this.

He maintained that the BDA should have verified all the documents before allocating sites. Also, it was the civic agency’s responsibility to re-examine the documents at regular intervals, he said.

He also expressed dissatisfaction over the manner in which the demolition drive was being carried out by remarking that it was not proper to adopt different yardsticks for the powerful and ordinary people.

He also stated that he would write to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressing his views on the issue.

Unhappy with the functioning style of the legislature House committee that has been formed to look into encroachments of lakes in and around Bengaluru, the Speaker said he would direct the committee to submit its report at the earliest.
