Soon, income limit to be raised to Rs. 25 lakh to purchase farmland

The State government has decided to amend the Karnataka Land Reforms Act in the next session of the State legislature in Belagavi, starting Monday, to increase the income limit from Rs. 2 lakh to Rs. 25 lakh to purchase farmland.

The proposed amendments to the Karnataka Land Reforms Act would empower Deputy Commissioners of districts to grant permission for purchasing a certain extent of land for educational, industrial, religious and housing projects.

The Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday has approved the proposal to accord deemed conversion for industries to install solar power plants in the land purchased for industrial purposes.

KAT Bench at Belagavi

The Cabinet has also given its consent for setting up a Bench of the Karnataka Administrative Tribunal (KAT) at Belagavi to ease the pending cases at KAT in Bengaluru, which stands at 29,920 cases as of now.

The proposed KAT Bench at Belagavi would have the jurisdiction over Belagavi, Ballari, Bagalkot, Dharwad, Haveri, Uttara Kannada and Koppal districts.

At present, there are 6,443 cases related to the State government employees from these districts before the KAT in Bengaluru.

The KAT deals with cases pertaining to service-related disputes of the government employees.
