Pointing out that that there is ‘some progress’ in the investigation into the case of missing software engineer Kumar Ajitabh, the Karnataka High Court on Thursday told the counsel of the techie’s father that the court would not hesitate to transfer the probe to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) if it notices any slackness in the probe being conducted by the Criminal Investigation Department of the State.
Justice Aravind Kumar made these oral observations after going through the confidential status report submitted by the CID’s Special Investigation Team in a sealed cover along with original records of the case based on an earlier order by the court.
Though the law does not bar sharing of the progress made in the investigation with Ajitabh’s father, Ashok Kumar Sinha, who has filed a petition for transferring the probe to the CBI, the court observed that the parents should not be made aware of the investigation in the best interest of the missing person. The court made these observations when the petitioner’s counsel said that the techie’s father is hospitalised.
Further hearing has been adjourned till July 31. Ajitabh is untraceable since December 18, 2017 after he went to meet a person in connection with the sale of his car, which he had advertised on an online portal.
