Software engineer’s apartment burgled

June 08, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - Bengaluru:

An apartment belonging to a software engineer was burgled and valuables worth over Rs. 3 lakh looted in the early hours of Sunday.

The victim, Savitha Jain, and her mother-in-law were at her flat on the second floor of a multi-storey apartment complex in Bellandur. Ms. Jain’s husband had gone to the UK.

Around 4.30 a.m., burglars gained entry into the apartment through the back door, which was open, and looted a wardrobe in the bedroom.

Ms. Jain noticed the burglary in the morning.

HSR Layout police suspect the involvement of someone known to the family.

“The burglars entered the apartment through the door of the passage situated behind the apartment. It cannot be a coincidence,” a senior police officer said.

The apartment has no CCTV cameras, but two security guards were on duty at the time of the theft. “We have taken them into custody and are questioning them. We are also examining CCTV footage in and around the area,” said Rohini Katoch Sepat, Deputy Commissioner of Police (south-east).
