In tune with the Swachh Bharat campaign, Malleswaram MLA Ashwathnarayan is launching a “Smart Swachh Malleswaram” campaign, which seeks to combine technology with people’s participation.

The campaign, being launched on October 2, will have an Android app to help people register complaints or raise issues related to solid waste management. Mr. Ashwathnarayan told The Hindu that a call centre would also be established to receive complaints.

He said the campaign would help create awareness about best practices and innovations related to cleanliness. Volunteers will visit various schools and institutions to create awareness on cleanliness and garbage clearance. They would also try to convince people about the need to segregate wet and dry garbage at source. He said the campaign would be taken to the ward level in the days to come.

People will be able to register complaints or raise issues related to solid waste management using an app
