Next time you find somebody extorting ‘parking fee’ illegally, help is just a tweet away. A tweet to City Commissioner of Police M.N. Reddi from a software engineer informing him about people forcefully collecting parking fees on Church Street led to six people being booked under the Police Act within six hours.
Nishchay A.G., software engineer visited Church Street on Friday and was forced to shell out a parking fee by some people who did not issue a receipt. He refused to pay, but saw other people being coaxed into doing so, which prompted him to tweet about the same to Mr. Reddi.
Mr. Reddi tagged Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Sandeep Patil, who directed Cubbon Park police to initiate action immediately.
Thrilled by the swift action, Mr. Nishchay said that more people should start reporting such illegal acts. “With police using Twitter, a communication channel has opened. It is a hassle-free experience,” he said.
The Cubbon Park police, who booked six people under the Police Act, said that they visited Church Street again on Saturday only to ensure that the six men were not back at the spot to collect ‘parking fees’ from gullible citizens.
