Stunned by Thursday's increase of Rs. 3.30 per litre in auto LPG price, autorickshaw unions have urged the authorities to immediately increase the fares.
In a press release, Rudramurthy, convener, Autorickshaw Drivers' Organisations United Struggle Committee, in a release here said the price rose from Rs. 45.58 a litre to Rs. 48.88 on Thursday.
Fare hike
Terming the hike a highly deplorable act by the Central Government, he said various autorickshaw drivers' unions had on February 27 unanimously resolved to demand increase in fares.
Therefore, the Government should increase the minimum fare from Rs. 17 to Rs. 24 and the per km fare from Rs. 9 to Rs. 12.
M.K. Aiyappa, Bangalore Urban Deputy Commissioner and Regional Transport Authority Chairperson, told The Hindu he has constituted a committee, headed by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic-East), to study the unions' demands.
Report in a week
The committee is expected to give the report in a week and the authority will take a decision based on it, he said.
