The police on Saturday detained seven people for the murder of 10-year-old Ayesha, whose body was found in Magadi on Friday.
“All seven are family members, and we have almost cracked the case,” a senior police officer said.
Ayesha went missing earlier in the week. At the spot where the body was discovered, the police found remnants of lemons and crushed eggs, which led them to suspect that she was sacrificed in a black magic ritual. “After questioning the suspects, who are related to the family, we think that there was a property dispute,” the officer said, adding that it is suspected that the assailants performed black magic before murdering the victim.
Among the suspect the police have detained are a soothsayer and a realtor. “We have some positive leads,” said Ramesh Bannoth, Superintendent of Police, Ramanagaram.
