The Rajanukunte police have registered a case of extortion against seven engineering students who allegedly assaulted, blackmailed and robbed another student after planting drugs at his apartment in Marasandra on Wednesday.
The victim, Vyshak, lodged a complaint with the police on Saturday. He said that the students barged into his apartment, accused him of peddling drugs, and looked up in his room. They then allegedly planted a packet of marijuana, confronted him and beat him up until he confessed that the drugs were his. They recorded the confession and left with his wallet, mobile phone, bag and motorcycle. They threatened to show the video recording to the police if he didn’t give them more money.
Vyshak approached the police and filed a complaint. The police have registered a case of extortion, wrongful restraint, assault and intentional insult to provoke breach of peace against the accused. “The students are absconding,” said the police.
The incident is similar to another recent case where a group of students planted marijuana in the house of a dental college student as they believed he was wealthy. They blackmailed him, until he approached the Hebbal police for help.
