Service provider booked

January 28, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - Bengaluru:

The city police have booked the Multi Service Platform (MSP) Vodafone India for abetting the crime under Section 114 of the Indian Penal Code. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Abhishek Goyal told The Hindu : “The retailers were activating thousands of SIM cards from a single handset that the company allotted a retailer. Customers were logging hundreds of SIM cards each. It is very unlikely that company officials were in the dark.”

Vodafone India has issued a formal statement stating they would co-operate with the probe. “...strict action will be taken in case noncompliance is established,” the statement said.
