A 66-year-old man was strangled to death in his house at J.C. Nagar on Sunday.

Najundappa, a former employee of public sector unit Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BHEL), is believed to have been strangled to death in his second-floor house between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Sunday. The body was discovered by his younger brother who had gone to the house late in the evening. He saw the door open and Najundappa’s body on the floor, said Basaveshwara Nagar police.

Police said marks on his neck pointed to strangulation. Moreover, valuables in the house were not stolen, leading the police to believe that personal enmity or property could be the reason for the murder. A senior police officer said there were no signs of forced entry, indicating that the murder could have been committed by someone known to the victim.

Nanjundappa’s son from his first marriage lived on the ground floor while he stayed alone on the second floor after the death of his second wife.

Police are analysing Call Detail Records from the mobile phone and taking statements of his kin.
