Second year pre-university students sailed through their Biology papers on Thursday. The students were the first batch to take the Biology examination based on the new National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) syllabus, which was adopted this academic year.
Raveena Pinto, a student of Jyoti Nivas Pre-University College, said: “Overall, the biology paper was easy. But the one-mark question on polymer chain reaction and the two-mark question on active and passive immunity were out of the ‘blow-up syllabus’.”
The Department of Pre-University Education had come out with a “blow-up syllabus” for physics, chemistry, mathematics and biology to help students study only what is needed for the examinations.
Another student, Deepthi Chowdhary, said that while the paper was “somewhat easy,” she faced some difficulty in the three-mark section in the question paper.
“We had three hours to write a 70 marks paper. So, compared to the traditional 100 marks question paper, I found it easy. Also, I had solved three model question papers and it was very useful,” said Nagaveni T.S., a biology student of Krupanidhi PU College.
The faculty maintained that the questions were easy, but twisted. Hanumanthacharya from BASE, another coaching centre, said that there were no ambiguous questions in the well-balanced paper and the difficulty level was moderate.
Electronics examMeanwhile, students found the electronics paper, which was also held on Thursday, somewhat lengthy. Incidentally, the students who wrote the electronics examination will be the last batch to appear for the paper based on the State syllabus.
“The electronics paper was okay, but lengthy,” said Kiran T.N., a student of Krupanidhi PU College.
While Pooja K.M. from Jyothi Nivas PU College complained about shortage of time, her classmate Ruqsaar Sumran felt she should have prepared better for the examination.
On Friday, the examination for accountancy and sociology will be held.
DebarredTwo students have been debarred for indulging in malpractices during the political science and statistics examinations on Wednesday. According to a press release issued here, one student was debarred from Bagalkot, while another, who was caught impersonating a student, was debarred from Mandya.
