As the State Government is considering its options to go on appeal before the Supreme Court against the High court order mandating polls to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), the State Election Commission (SEC) is gearing up for the polls.

SEC held a series of meetings on Tuesday making final preparations for the polls, likely to be announced by this weekend.

P.N. Sreenivasachary, SEC, said “As it stands today, polls were to be held by August 5 for which we are preparing. We will announce the calendar of events by weekend and hold polls by the last week of July,” he said.

The SEC has identified 6,733 polling stations in the city and has already prepared a database of nearly 34,000 personnel from various departments to be roped in as polling personnel.

Honnamba, Secretary of SEC, said that they have had a series of meetings with the city police commissioner regarding security measures to ensure peaceful polls. “We are yet to identify critical, sensitive and hyper-sensitive polling stations. That exercise will be carried out after the candidates for the wards are finalised,” she said.

SEC has almost completed the logistics preparation for the polls. “We have bought sufficient supply of indelible ink, forms, covers and the wax from the press. All the Electronic Voting Machines (EVM) have been checked and kept ready in a strong room,” the official said.
