Sack V.K. Singh: Kharge

October 24, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:43 am IST - KALABURAGI/Bidar/Bengaluru:

Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha M. Mallikarjun Kharge, on Friday, demanded that Minister of State for External Affairs V.K. Singh be sacked immediately for his remarks on the Dalit incident in Faridabad, Haryana. Mr. Singh had allegedly drawn an analogy between the murder of two Dalit children and the stoning of dogs.

Mr. Kharge told presspersons in Kalaburgi city that a mere formal apology by Mr. Singh after making such a shocking statement was not enough. “Such statements by the BJP and RSS leaders expose heights of arrogance. The Faridabad incident was not only violation of human rights of the Dalits, but a heinous crime against humanity, which should be condemned by all,” he said. Mr. Kharge alleged that after the BJP had come to power at the Centre, nobody was afraid of speaking ill and spreading falsehoods about the Dalits.Complaints filed

Meanwhile, Mohammad Irshad Ali, district youth Congress president, has filed a complaint in Bidar against Mr. Singh. “He has insulted the Dalits by comparing them to dogs. Strict action should be taken against him,” Mr. Ali said.

The Karnataka Pradesh Youth Congress Committee has also filed a complaint with the High Grounds police, Bengaluru. On Thursday, the group led by KPYCC president Rizwan Arshad, filed the complaint citing newspaper articles and urged them to take action for the “insult to the Dalit community”. A police official said that the complaint has been received, but an FIR had not been filed. “We are seeking legal opinion as the statements were uttered elsewhere and not in our jurisdiction. If an FIR has been filed elsewhere, then we will not pursue the complaint here and will instead ask the complainants to go the Delhi where the FIR has been filed,” said the officer.
