The Bharatinagar police on Friday arrested a 50-year-old parking attendant of a film theatre and a 20-year-old housekeeper for allegedly beating a construction labourer to death during a row over paying a parking fee of ₹10 at Lavanya Theatre on St. John’s Road. The incident took place on Thursday.

The deceased, Bharanidharan, along with his relative had gone to watch a film, but as they were leaving, he got into a fight with the attendant, Selvaraj, over paying the parking fee. The argument soon turned into a brawl, and Selvaraj called his associate Shekhar, who works as a housekeeper, to his aid.

“The duo dragged Bharanidharan to a room on the theatre premises, locked him in, and beat him up,” said the police.

A few minutes later, the victim’s relative managed to break open the door and found Bharanidharan unconscious. He was taken to Bowring Hospital where doctors declared him as brought dead. “We have arrested Selvaraj and Shekhar for the murder. They have been remanded in judicial custody.”
