Road rage: two women chase and catch autorickshaw driver

Auto hit their car and his vehicle did not have registration number

A road rage incident took a nasty turn for two women who were allegedly assaulted by an autorickshaw driver at Bellandur on Monday night. The driver, Venkataswamy, 44, reportedly tried to run over one of the women when they confronted him.

The women, both software engineers, were returning home from work in their car when an autorickshaw without a registration number hit their vehicle on a service road near Ecospace. The women chased the vehicle, intercepted the driver and questioned his driving etiquette.

“He tried to drive away when they showed the damage to their car. One of the women stepped in front of the auto to stop him from fleeing. Venkataswamy allegedly tried to run her off the road. She fell to the ground,” said a police officer.

Realising that she would not be able to give details of the auto to the police, as the three-wheeler did not have a registration number, the injured woman stepped inside the auto. After failing to get her to disembark, the accused got behind the wheel and began driving towards HSR Layout while her friend followed them in the car. When she began shouting for help, other motorists chased the autorickshaw and forced the driver to stop.

The Bellandur police have registered a case of outraging the modesty of a woman and remanded him in judicial custody.
