RGUHS postpones examinations

Exams were to start on August 23

The exodus of people from the northeast from the city has affected the academic calendar.

In what will come as a huge relief for students from the northeast region studying in colleges affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), the varsity has decided to postpone the examinations scheduled to commence on August 23.

The postponement is a result of a meeting of RGUHS Vice-Chancellor K.S. Sriprakash with the principals of undergraduate colleges offering courses in nursing, pharmacy, physiotherapy and allied health sciences, on Saturday.

A press release from the varsity said that the decision was taken “keeping in view the emotional disturbance which the northeast students are undergoing.”

The release also added that the new dates of the examination would be announced “after assessing the situation.”

RGUHS is the first varsity/college to be taking the step of altering the academic calendar in view of the students from the northeast leaving Bangalore for their home towns.

Other colleges and universities are yet to make any announcement with regard to the upcoming semester exams.

Dr. Sriprakash is also said to have instructed all principals to take extra precautions for the safety of the students who have stayed back and encourage those who have left to come back and to counsel them to lessen their anxiety.

The RGUHS release added that students who needed any information can contact the following helpline numbers: 9141935874, 8453816903 or 8453755276.
