The anti-corruption branch of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had in 2003 registered a case against Wing Commander (Retd.,) K.S. Tewari and two others, alleging that Tewari had entered into a criminal conspiracy with Satyapal, Chief Supervisor, HAL Transport Aircrafts Division, Kanpur, and Hardeep Singh, proprietor of 8 PM Restaurant in Hotel Bliss, Kanpur. The idea was to cheat the company by submitting false claims of travel and Dearness Allowances (TA&DA) for official journeys undertaken by Tewari. A charge sheet related to the crime had been filed in 2004. Pradeep S. Balikai, special judge for CBI cases, Bengaluru on Tuesday pronounced his judgement, and sentenced Tewari to rigorous imprisonment for 5 years and also slapped a fine of Rs. 4 lakh for each of the offences punishable under various sections of law.
