Residents complain of sewage being let into Mallatahalli lake

Residents of Sir. M. Visveswaraya Layout have complained that untreated sewage from several private layouts in the neighbourhood are being let into Mallatahalli lake leading to frothing and a foul smell.

D.S. Gowda, president of Sir. M. Visveswaraya Layout Welfare Association, who has written to the BDA on the matter, said that repeated complaints have failed to elicit any response. “Untreated sewage has to be diverted into sewage lines at the source itself. But officials let it into SWDs and later try to address the problem when it becomes bigger,” Mr. Gowda alleged in the letter.

A senior BDA official said that they will take up the matter with BWSSB, the agency responsible for sewerage.
