Record power consumption in city

Bescom Managing Director Pankaj Kumar Pandey said there will be no immediate impact on consumers.

Electricity consumption in the city has reached record proportions with demand peaking to an all-time high of 4,608 MW on Wednesday, way before summer has set in. This record peak was observed in areas fed by the Bescom.

The second highest peak demand at 4,500 MW was recorded on Tuesday. Last year, around this time, the peak demand was 4,400 MW. Bescom Managing Director Pankaj Kumar Pandey, at a press conference on Thursday, said the record in the State is 9,300 MW. He said there will be no immediate impact on consumers. “However, if demand keeps increasing, load on the system will increase, due to which supply may be disrupted in some areas. Also, the difference in peak and non-peak load should not be very high. We have devised a plan to handle this issue in summer.”
