April 13, 2013 12:06 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 11:47 pm IST - Bangalore:

In a surprise move, Rakshita, actor, who was chosen by the BSR Congress to contest from Chamarajanagar Assembly, has quit the party. Rumours were rife that she would join the BJP, though sources in the party refused to confirm it.

Speaking to The Hindu, general secretary of BSR Congress Raveendra Reshme said he had learnt that Ms. Rakshita touted as the “star campaigner” for the party, quit because of “non-cooperation” by workers in Chamarajanagar. Ms. Rakshita had sought the party ticket to contest from Rajarajeshwarinagar, but she was asked to contest from Chamarajanagar. However, party workers had protested against her candidature in the constituency.

Sources in the BJP said that Ms. Rakshita joining the party and aspiring to contest from Rajarajeshwarinagar was only a rumour. A senior party leader, who did not wish to be identified, said that the party had decided to field either M. Srinivas, MLA, or H. Ramachandra from that constituency.
