A sudden squall, accompanied by thunder and lightning, struck various parts of the city on Wednesday.

Around 2.30 p.m., heavy rainfall was recorded in north Bengaluru while, by evening, the rainfall intensified in central and south Bengaluru.

According to Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), Yelahanka in north Bengaluru received the highest rainfall of 37.5mm. Much of this was around 2.45 p.m. when rainfall intensity touched 74mm per hour.

Radhakrishna Temple ward in Sanjaynagar received 29.5mm of rainfall. By 4.30 p.m., Rajarajeshwari Nagar received over 27.5mm of rainfall.

The rain disrupted traffic and normal life in parts of Yelahanka and surrounding areas. Three trees or branches — one each in Jayamahal , Halasuru, and Vivek Nagar post office — had fallen on roads. There were no casualties or incidents of water-logging, said the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).

The Indian Meteorological Department forecast rainfall over the next 48 hours.
