Film actor-turned-producer Raghavendra Rajkumar and his wife Mangala obtained anticipatory bail from a sessions court on Saturday after the Cottonpet police booked them for abetment to suicide.

The son of legendary actor Rajkumar, who owns Vajreshwari Combines, was accused of harassing his accountant Umesh Kotekar (49) for alleged misappropriation of Rs. 3 crore. Umesh committed suicide on Friday.

In the police complaint, his family alleged that the staff of Vajreshwari Combines had searched their house and taken away important documents. They accused Raghavendra of calling Umesh to seek an explanation about the money.

Unable to bear the humiliation and alleged harassment, Umesh checked into Manjunatha Lodge in Cottonpet two days ago and allegedly ended his life.

Informed by staff about a foul emanating from the room, police broke open the door on Friday to find Umesh’s body on the bed. Police said Umesh had smothered himself to death using adhesive tapes.

Based on the complaint and the statement from Umesh’s wife Sumana and son U.K. Vinayak, the police booked Raghavendra and his wife. The sessions court has asked the couple not to leave the country and cooperate with the investigation.
