Miffed by the on-off schedule of evaluation, commerce lecturers deployed in the evaluation of Bangalore University’s undergraduate answer scripts staged a protest at the United Mission Degree College in Bangalore on Tuesday. The lecturers, part of the Bangalore University Commerce Teachers’ Association, were angered by the delay in restarting evaluation work.
Frustrating journey
An evaluator from Doddaballapur, deputed at the United Mission Degree College centre, said it was disheartening to travel all the way only to find out on reaching the college that no evaluation was taking place.
“Today the new custodian was supposed to take charge, but that has not happened. I’m afraid the academic calendar will be affected if this goes on. Moreover, once colleges reopen, how will we be able to come here for evaluation when we are required to teach students in the college?” he asked.
Corruption charge
The Syndicate, at its meeting on Monday, had backed the Academic Council’s resolution to sack the custodians in four evaluation centres following bribery charge against them.
Meanwhile, BU Registrar (Evaluation) R.K. Somashekhar, in a press statement, said: “Evaluation work which was stopped for a day in the evaluation units of Mariyappa First Grade College (BCA and BHM) and United Mission Degree College (B.Com third and fifth semesters) for the November 2012 UG examinations, will resume from December 19.”
