Protest by government primary school teachers

Many government primary schools across the State were closed on Tuesday as teachers boycotted classes insisting that the government address their long-pending demands.

Teachers have been demanding that the government introduce pre-primary classes in all its schools, revert to the old pension scheme and implement recommendations of the 6th Pay Commission.

Basavaraj Gurikar, president, Karnataka State Government Primary School Teachers’ Association, said that teachers took one day causal leave. While the association claimed that all government primary schools were shut, officials said they were yet to collate data on how many schools were closed.

The association has warned the government of boycotting classes on September 5 if their demands are not accepted.
