The president of Kalyan Nagar Residents’ Welfare Association has been booked for collecting ₹25 from the residents as waste management cess.

The accused, C.M. Subbaiah, a former Central government employee, had been given a contract from the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) to set up a waste management committee and maintain cleanliness in the area. He was given ₹2 lakh remuneration per month.

Despite this, Mr. Subbaiah collected ₹25 from each house and even issued receipts for the money collected with the BDA seal. A few residents got suspicious and complained to the BDA.

The police have issued notice to Mr. Subbaiah seeking an explanation based on which action would be taken, a senior police officer said.
