Two policemen attached with Jalahalli police station were roughed up when they intervened in a property dispute between a husband and wife in Jalahalli on April 13.

The police have made the husband the accused and booked him for assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging his duty and for intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace. The wife has been left with a stern warning.

Assistant sub-inspector Ramachandra, in his complaint, stated he was on his patrolling duty on Saturday when he received an alert from the police control room that a man and a woman was quarrelling in public. Ramachandra also alerted his colleague, ASI Nagaraj, and asked him to come to a road near Bahubalinagar, where the policemen saw a man and a woman fighting and tearing each other’s clothes.

The policemen then learnt that the couple, Baghirathi and Kantharaju, had been constantly quarreling over a property issue. When they warned the couple not to fight, Kantharaju asked them why they were interfering between the problems of a husband and wife. Kantharaju allegedly went on to abuse his wife and told the policemen that they could take her away with them. When the policemen continued to warn Kantharaju, he roughed them up and tore their uniforms, before running into a house and locking himself in.

The policemen barged into the house and bundled him to the police station, where he was booked under IPC Sections 352 and 504. He was arrested and sent to jail.
