The city traffic police are on Friday expected to intensify measures to ensure lorries do not enter the city between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. though the ban came into force on Thursday.
B. Dayananda, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic), said they were busy keeping a watch on the first day of New Year. As a result, they will focus on trucks from Friday. “The lorry drivers have approached us with certain issues regarding the ban. These will be discussed and addressed. But we have not given them any additional time,” he said.
Meanwhile, different lorry associations had different tales about the affect of the ban on their operations.
S.P. Vij, president of the Karnataka Goods Transport Association, claimed that nearly 5,000 lorries ferrying sand and construction material, among other things, did not operate on Thursday. On the other hand, Channa Reddy, president, Federation of Karnataka Lorry Owner’s Association, said it movement of lorries was normal except during the peak hours (8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.), which was the case earlier as well.
