Cricketer Amit Mishra reportedly assaulted his friend in the room of a luxury hotel on Residency Road on September 25 when she had come to meet him.

“The complainant and the cricketer had an argument in the hotel room, following which he threw a kettle at her. He then verbally abused her before she left the room,” said an investigating officer from Ashok Nagar Police Station.

The alleged incident took place when Mishra was in Bengaluru along with the Indian cricket team for preparations ahead of the India-South Africa series, which is currently underway.

The provocation for the alleged attack is not known but police added that it was over some ‘personal issue’.

Following a preliminary probe, a case under Sections 354 (assault or criminal force on woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapon or means) of the IPC was registered and a notice was sent on Friday to Mishra asking him to appear before the Bengaluru police as soon as possible, police source added.

The cricketer was not available for comment.
