Police open fire at rowdy

The Banaswadi police opened fire on a 22-year-old rowdy who allegedly attacked them in a bid to escape. The accused, Syed Suhail, is named in over 15 criminal cases. He was stopped by Sub-Inspector Sharath Kumar and Constable Rafiqh on Monday morning. According to the police, he was on a scooter.

Suhail attacked them with a lethal weapon and tried to escape. Sharath, who was injured in the attack, fired a warning shot in the air, and later two shots at his legs.

He alerted the control room following which additional police personnel rushed to the spot. They shifted Suhail to Bowring Hospital.

DCP (east) Ajai Hilori said that Suhail is part of a gang that targets senior citizens. He allegedly stabbed a 63-year-old man in May 2017 and took his gold chain.
