January 15, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:35 am IST - BENGALURU:

Kendra Sahitya Akademi is offering a bouquet of landmark plays and a national seminar on Contemporary Indian Drama in Bangalore to mark its diamond jubilee.

According to Akademi vice-chairperson and Jnanpith awardee Chandrashekara Kambara, this theatre festival and brain-storming session on contemporary Indian theatre is an attempt to unearth further possibilities of texts and performances adopting themes of texts and theatre. The event is the first of its kind being organised in the history of the Akademi.

Gurunanak Bhavan on Millers Tank Bund Road will be the nerve centre of the fest from January 16 to 20. It is an opportunity for theatre buffs to watch pan-India plays and listen to stalwarts, including Girish Karnad, Naseeruddin Shah, Nandkishore Acharya, Bhanu Bharti, Samik Bandhopadhyay, Waman Kendre, K.D. Tripathi, Sadananda Menon and H.S. Shivaprakash.
