A concrete pillar at a construction site in Avalahalli on National Highway 4 collapsed, killing one and injuring five others on Saturday afternoon.

Sudhindra (28), a welding supervisor, died on the spot while four of the five injured were deemed out of danger. The fifth, Minto Sharma (21), is in a critical condition.

A cold storage complex was being constructed by Snowman Construction Ltd. at Boddigere Cross near Avalahalli. “Around 1.30 p.m., one of the supporting columns buckled under excessive load and collapsed on the men working below,” said the Avalahalli police. Sudhindra, from Koppal, lived in Laggere in the city. Minto and the other workers were from Bihar. The police said a case of negligence can be filed against the company only after investigations proved that safety norms were violated.
