The road over the storm water drain (SWD) at Nayandahalli connecting Mysuru Road and Outer Ring Road (ORR), which was expected to ease traffic, is now at risk of being rendered useless as the approach is blocked by illegal parking of private buses.

Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) built the road across the SWD to divert traffic into ORR even before the Nayandahalli Junction to avoid a bottleneck. Most of the work on the road on the Vrushabhavathi valley (SWD) was completed at least two months ago. It is yet to be asphalted and thrown open to public.

However, private buses are parked on the land abutting the drain, which is blocking the approach, thereby making the road out of bounds for commuters. BDA has, over the past two months, repeatedly levelled the land and tried to clear the land of parked vehicles, but in vain.

Commuters and residents of the area brought the issue to the notice of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah during his recent rounds of the city. Work on the road was speeded up on the directions of the Chief Minister.

P.N. Naik, Engineer Member, BDA, said that the adjoining land and approach would be cleared soon. “We are going to asphalt the road from Tuesday. If it doesn’t rain this week, the road should be thrown open to the public by the weekend,” he said.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) M.A. Saleem said that they will take stringent action against anybody parking vehicles illegally.
