Bharat Ratna award winner C.N.R. Rao, space scientist and the former Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation, U.R. Rao, the former Chief Justice of Karnataka and Kerala High Courts V.S. Malimath and the former High Court judge H.N. Nagmohan Das are among those who will be part of a review advisory committee set up to revive the demand for an anti-superstition Bill for the State.
Apart from building public opinion, the committee of “progressive thinkers” is also expected to submit its suggestions to the government on the Bill.
The announcement came at the end of a daylong meeting here on Sunday. Writer K. Marulasiddappa said the main aim of the committee would be to convey to the government that the overall public opinion was in favour of the Bill.
“From what we gather from the statements of government representatives in the media, there is still room for the implementation of the Bill. The government has four drafts – two from the Kerala and Maharashtra governments and two from the Karnataka State Law University and the National Law School of India University. But they did not bring out a final draft after they developed cold feet. We want the process to continue,” he said.
Veerabhadra Channamalla Swami, seer of the Nadumamidhi Mutt, said meetings and rallies would be conducted across the State on October 30, followed by a rally on November 16 in Bengaluru, after which a representation would be submitted to the government.
It has been over a month since the murder
