Panel formed to set up Indira Canteens

Will be chaired by Bengaluru Development Minister K.J. George

The State government has constituted a 10-member committee headed by Bengaluru Development Minister K.J. George to make arrangements for establishing ‘Indira Canteens’ in all the 198 wards of the BBMP.

Its members are Food and Civil Supplies Minister U.T. Khader, Mayor Padmavathi, princial secretary, Urban Development; Chairman, Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board; Commissioner, Bangalore Development Authority; Managing Director, Bangalore Electricity Supply Company and Special Commissioner (Finance), BBMP. Deputy Secretary (Urban Development) will be the convenor of the panel.

In the State budget, Mr. Siddaramaiah had announced the establishment of the canteens where breakfast will be served at ₹5 a plate. Lunch and dinner will cost ₹10 each.

Mr. George announced that the canteens will start functioning from Independence Day (August 15).
