Lexicographer G. Venkatasubbaiah says Pampa is a poet dear to my heart, and to receive an award instituted in his name is an honour.

Lexicographer and writer G. Venkatasubbaiah, who has been chosen for the prestigious Pampa award by the government for 2014, on Thursday said he was elated as Pampa was a “poet dear to my heart, and to receive an award instituted in his name is an honour.”

Pampa Prashasti is the highest literary honour conferred by the government on a litterateur for his/her lifetime contribution to Kannada literature. The award is named after Adikavi Pampa of 10th Century, author of Vikramarjuna Vijaya .

The award, carrying a purse of Rs. 3 lakh and a citation, will be presented to Prof. Venkatasubbaiah by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah during Kadambotsava, scheduled to be held on Saturday, at Banavasi in Uttara Kannada district.
