The single biggest characteristic of the millennial workforce is the largest ever participation of women in the formal workplace worldwide.

Organisations have begun to focus on equity in order to achieve their goals of an equal workplace, and that's heading in the right direction. While equality focuses on the same thing for every one, equity is concerned with a more fair and just approach recognising that different people need different things in order to experience true inclusion.

Women should experience environments where what they need to create an equitable context need not be spelt out explicitly. Organisations would have accounted for this in the planning itself, be it safety or even in support for equal opportunities in learning, development, growth and career advancement.

Gender mainstreaming will become an important aspect of strategy; it is the public policy concept of assessing the different implications for people of different genders of any planned policy, legislation and programs. It is about bringing the experience, knowledge and interests of both men and women to bear on the agenda.
