The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) on Tuesday told the High Court that only 1,654 Ganesha idols made of plaster of Paris (PoP) were received on September 2, which is only 0.086% of the total 1,91,247 idols immersed on that day in the city.

The board said in its statement filed before the HC that this was a result of measures taken to create awareness along with other agencies of the State through various media, to urge the people to use eco-friendly clay idols, while pointing out that precautions were taken to avoid immersion of PoP idols in lakes.
