A month-old baby boy was allegedly smothered to death and dumped under a cot in a house in Viveknagar.

The baby was one of twins born to Karthik in November, and was suffering from fever. According to police, on Friday night, Karthik went out after putting the baby on the bed in the hall to get medicine. A few minutes later, the mother took one baby inside a room to feed her.

When Karthik returned, the second baby was missing. He began searching for the baby in the neighbourhood. When he failed to find the baby, he approached the Ashoka Nagar police and lodged a complaint.

While searching Karthik's house, police found the baby, wrapped in a towel, beneath the bed.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the baby had been smothered to death. The baby was shifted to a hospital for post-mortem.

During questioning, police learnt that Karthik had had a fight with his brother Arvind and father Chittaraju. He, along with his wife, had left the family home and had started living separately.

Police are questioning Arvind and Chittaraju.
