An official with the vigilance squad of the BMTC caught a 22-year-old private firm employee allegedly travelling with a student pass in an attempt to avail of the discounted fare. The accused, Purushotham D., was caught by BMTC official Rahul Patil at Hebbagodi bus stand during a routine check.
When Purushotham produced the student pass, Mr. Patil asked to see his college identity card, which he was not able to produce, said the police. “The accused claimed that he was enrolled in a business management course in a college in BTM Layout. However, he was not carrying a bag or books, and did not have an identity card,” said the police.
Officials later learned that Purushotham was employed at a firm in Electronics City and had procured the bus pass six month ago. He allegedly confessed to forging the documents of a business school to avail the pass, which allows students to travel at a nominal fee. He was booked for cheating and forgery, and remanded in judicial custody.
BMTC officials have sought a probe to see if staff members of the business school were involved in this scam.
