On the verge of being trifurcated, BU to hold 50th convocation

In what could be the last convocation to be held at the place where its 50-year-old history started, Bangalore University (BU) will hold its 50th annual convocation at the Central College here on Saturday. The varsity’s trifurcation was only recently announced by the State government, gifting the Central College campus to a new university to begin from there, limiting the existing varsity to the Jnanabharathi campus.

As many as 199 gold medals and 77 cash prizes will be distributed to rank holders. There are 92 first rank holders who will be securing the medals and prizes.

In all, 47,202 students are eligible for their degree certificates this year, of who 519 have secured distinction, 24,332 have got first class, 16,399 second class and 5,784 have cleared with pass class marks, university officials said here on Friday.
