Now, only BBMP to sanction building plans

The State government has streamlined the procedures for obtaining building approval plan and occupancy certificate in layouts or sites developed by various agencies in Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) limits.

From now on, people have to obtain building plan approval only from the BBMP if they want to construct residential houses and commercial buildings in layouts developed by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA), Karnataka Housing Board (KHB), Karnataka State Slum Clearance Board, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL), Bengaluru-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor Area Planning Authority (BMICPA), and other agencies.

A notification to this effect was issued following the intervention of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who had directed the Urban Development Department to take steps to reduce the number of agencies involved in granting building plan approvals, layout development plans, and issuing occupancy certificates. BDA has been made responsible for sanctioning of development plans and division of layouts.

Earlier, different agencies were providing technical approval, commencement certificate, layouts plant, occupancy certificate etc.

However, the order has left out industrial areas developed by the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) and the Karnataka State Small Scale Industries Development Corporation (KSSIDC).

The order comes in the wake of complaints that people who want to construct buildings are being made to run from one government agency to another.

Moreover, the BDA has been delaying the process of handing over layouts developed by it to the BBMP due to various reasons.
