Now, an app to keep track of BMTC buses

In one sweep, the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has managed to address several customer complaints, like bus deviations, wrong amount charged, late buses among others, by introducing the Intelligent Transport System.

The project, launched on Wednesday, will help the corporation check for problems with a vehicle tracking unit that has been installed across the entire fleet of 6,414 buses.

In addition, the introduction of 10,000 electronic ticketing machines will help check pilferage of ticket fares and also help in predicting which routes are the busiest and which ones are running at sub-optimal capacity.

“Bengaluru is growing rapidly and has a floating population of 10 lakh people per day. Transport services in the city need to be citizen-friendly and this is one of those projects. In addition, smart cards will also be introduced in July,” Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said during the launch.

Passengers will now be able to download the Android app and track their buses. The app allows users to locate buses based on routes, bus stops and plan trips.

“We have put up bus information displays at 35 stands across the city and at the airport,” said BMTC Managing Director, Ekroop Caur.
