New school proposals yet to be processed
The department has received thousands of applications last year for permission to start new private schools and sections for the 2015-2016 academic year , but the department is yet to process these applications and grant permission. While private school managements have criticised this, department officials said that there was delay in processing this applications as the norms related to land requirement were revised in May. Department officials said that all the applications would be processed in a fortnight.
Textbook reach children on time
Unlike, the previous academic years, students in government schools that began on Saturday were in for a surprise as the textbooks reached the students on time this year. While students in some districts have received the first set of uniforms, some others are yet to receive uniforms. Meanwhile, rural students in class eight will have to wait till August to receive cycles.
649 schools officially English
School managements of 649 schools in Bengaluru and Mysuru division can heave a sigh of relief this academic year as they have officially been given the English-medium tag. This includes schools that were established after 1994, when the government stopped recognising English-medium schools as it formulated the language policy mandating that the medium of instruction should be in the child’s mother tongue or the regional language.
Several illegal schools now, legal!
Some of the 1,266 schools in the city that were blacklisted by the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) for operating without permission have got legal sanction for this academic year. The department in December 2014 had formed three-member committees to identify illegal schools. While private school managements are urging the department to publish a fresh list of illegal schools, department officials are still contemplating of how these school managements could be penalised.
