Need to eliminate caste-based reservation in country: writer

June 20, 2015 04:32 pm | Updated 04:32 pm IST - Vijayapura:

Lamenting that political parties have been using caste-based reservation only for political gains, veteran writer S.S. Kabbin said he felt the need to eliminate caste-based reservation and introduce economic-based reservation in the country.

Delivering his presidential address at the fourth Vijayapura taluk Kannada Sahitya Sammelan here on Saturday, he said that despite a Supreme Court ordering to remove the ‘creamy layer’ from the existing caste-based reservation, no political party has shown the guts to implement the apex court’s order.

“The time has come for political parties to realise the hard-fact that poverty does not confine to only backward communities, it is omnipresent,” Prof. Kabbin said.
