The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has cracked the whip on six city colleges offering teacher education courses. The council withdrew the recognition of M.Ed. courses offered at Vijaya Teachers College, Gold Field College of Education (Kolar), St. Paul’s M.Ed. College, Smt. Mehra’s College of Education, Bangalore City College of Education and KIET College of Education. The decision to withdraw the recognition to the colleges, affiliated to Bangalore University, was taken during the 241st meeting of the NCTE Southern Regional Committee held on March 29 and 31, and April 1. A decision on SJES College of Education, Old Madras Road is pending, which will be taken after processing the reply from the college. Seven M.Ed. colleges under BU were served show cause notices by NCTE in November last year seeking an explanation after the BU Task Force on teacher education’s interim report highlighted the shortcomings in the affiliated colleges.

Management quota admissions for the year 2012-13 in these colleges were suspended by BU, and all the students were accommodated in is own M.Ed. programme.
